14 February 2007
Vehicle Rescue
Pennsylvania Turnpike, Northeast Extension, mile marker 20 Northbound

The CSFC, along with Harmonville Fire Company (44) was dispatched for a vehicle rescue at milemarker 20.0 northbound, just north of the junction with the East-West Turnpike.  While enroute, radio reports were received indicating that a northbound tractor-trailer had slid over on its side and was now lying in the southbound lanes.  Deputy 33 arrived on scene and confirmed these reports, as well as the fact that the  tractor-trailer driver was stilled trapped.  A car that was involved was upside down but unoccupied, since the driver had self-exrticated.  Once Engine 33-1 and Rescue 33 arrived on scene shortly thereafter, CSFC firefigthers extricated the truck driver by using a ladder and opening up the passenger door, now on top of the truck.  The apparently uninjured driver was assisted out of the truck and down the ladder, but both he and the drive rof the car were subsequently flown to trauma centers for checkups.  Chief 44 handled the landing of the helicopters in the northbound lanes while Centre Square units concentrated on the truck. Fortunately, the truck was carrying a fairly harmless load of air conditioners.
