The
CSFC was
dispatched, along with Norriton Fire Engine Company (61) and Upper
Gwynedd Fire Company (80) at 0231 hours Saturday 22 January 2005.
On one of the coldest nights in over a decade, units fought a
well-involved fire in a local bar.
The inital dispatch was for a fire in the attached apartments on the
north end of the building. Arriving on scene
~3 minutes after dispatch, the PD reported a working fire.
Wissahickon
Fire Company (7) was dispatched as the FAST unit and stood by on scene
during operations.
Upon the arrival of DC33, the fire was well involved and had already
paritally self-vented. CSFC units led off with a 2 1/2" handline
and entered the apartment area while additional CSFC crews performed a
search of the apartments, since it was unknown if there were any
occupants still inside. All searches prooved negative. The
fire had a significant head start, and after about 20 minutes of
attempts to bring it under control, it was running the ceiling across
the bar attached to the apartments. Realizing that there was no
life safety hazarad and that the building was not going to be saved,
the IC ordered a switch to defensive operations. Units remained
on scene several more hours for extinguishment and overhaul.
Also assisting were North Penn Goodwill (41) on scene and Harmonvile
Fire Compnay (44) and Barren Hill Fire Company (29) who both provided
standby services in 33's quarters for the duration.
